Rogerson’s Trust

This page provides some information on Denton's Charitable Trust.

Introduction

The Revd. Robert Rogerson served as Rector of Denton for 55 years from 1859 to 1714.
In his will he left to the Rector of Denton and his successors, on trust, six acres of land which his father had purchased. The yearly rent from the was to support and maintain a Church of England school in the parish, and various other church-based charitable activities.
Further details can be found in the History Section..

The Trust Today

The Rogerson Trust continues to this day and tries to carry on its Founder's objectives,
The trustees are the Rector - the Revd. Chris Hutton, Malcolm Skinner, Gill Hipwell and Phil Poulton.
The land that is owned is the village playing field which is on long term rent to the parish council for a small amount a year. There is also a little income for the trust from the money raised from the sale of the Millennium Wood land.
The trustees meet twice a year. The trust is under the limit for charity registration, though they are looking into re-registering as it would be helpful (cheaper banking etc.).

The Trust's income goes to Alburgh with Denton School. But the trust deed says "a Christian education for the children of Denton". That is why the 'with' is important as it is a joint school and not an Alburgh school.
It pays for the bibles that the Year 6 children get as well as the odd enrichment activity or for example coaches to the cathedral etc for a school trip.
The school can apply as and when there is something suitable and if there is money in the account, they get it.
